About

Who We Are

Mercury Permits started in Austin in 1996 with the goal of helping our clients navigate the permitting process with less pain and delays, and more speed and accuracy. That meant learning the jurisdictions inside and out, studying the ever-changing building codes, meeting with client and city staff, tracking review cycles, catching issues before they become delays, and using our expertise to help guide projects through the permitting system.

Thirty years later, we have continued to improve and build on those founding principles. We have grown into a trusted partner for developers, architects, contractors, and business owners across the state. Our client list includes national retailers, large grocery store chains, multifamily developers, biotech firms, and everyone in between. The projects may change, but our approach is always steadfast.

Experience that gets your project approved faster.

Thirty Years of Getting It Right

Since 1996, Mercury Permits has been moving commercial projects through the permitting process with speed, accuracy, and solid communication.

What Drives Us and What You Can Expect

Speed – We strive to respond to every inquiry within 24 hours; that includes every call, email, and question.

Accuracy – We strive to catch potential issues before they get to the city, thus eliminating wasted time and money. We study the codes, we know what jurisdictions require before submitting, and we identify issues before they become delays.

Communication – We keep you in the loop. We closely monitor the review process every step of the way, and keep your team informed from the initial submittal through the final approval.

We work directly with the whole team to streamline the process and keep it easy for everyone. We help coordinate plan sets, identify jurisdiction-specific requirements early, and keep the lines of communication open with the whole design team.

Our Team

Brennon Ivey
Chief Executive Officer

Brennon joined Mercury Permits in 2003, when the company was a one-person operation. Over the next two decades, he helped grow it into a trusted permitting consultancy with a dedicated team serving jurisdictions across Texas. Today, he leads the company as CEO.

Having worked in nearly every area of the business, Brennon brings a unique perspective to his role. In the company's early days, he delivered plans to city offices and took on responsibilities ranging from accounting and operations to client service. That hands-on experience gives him a deep understanding of the challenges clients and project teams face throughout the permitting process and continues to shape his approach to leadership.

A proud Texas native, Brennon remains closely connected to his Austin roots. Outside the office, he enjoys local favorites such as Mount Bonnell and El Dorado Cafe. He and his terrier mix, Gigi, are regulars at Auditorium Shores, where they enjoy walks with views of the downtown Austin skyline.

David Steele
President

David brings over two decades of construction industry experience to his role as President of Mercury Permits, which he joined in 2013. His background spans the full breadth of the built environment — from custom home estimating to deep foundation testing for skyscrapers and bridges worldwide — giving him an unusually comprehensive lens for code analysis and permit consulting. When he's out of the office, David can be found kayak fishing on Lake Travis, playing disc golf, or dabbling in painting, music, fine woodworking, and fusion cooking from his Lago Vista home, where he lives with his wife and their three rescues: Arwen, a Weimaraner/Pit Bull mix; the aptly named German Shepherd, Tank; and Celine, their forever cat.

Aaron Henderson
Senior Project Manager

Aaron manages complex permit projects from initial submittal through final approval. He knows the jurisdictions, understands what reviewers are looking for, and stays ahead of the issues that cause delays. Clients working with Aaron know their project is being watched closely at every stage.

Aaron started with Mercury Permits in 2018. Being taken under the wings of the team, Aaron quickly became a Project Manager after learning all aspects of the permitting process. Being born and raised in Mississippi, Aaron enjoys spending most of his time hunting and taking in the Texas scenery with his wife and German Shorthaired Pointer Ruger. If not out in nature then, he can be found under a car doing all things automotive. Torchy’s and East Side King are his favorite spots to eat.

Charles joined the Mercury Permits team in 2021, bringing sixteen years of experience in the construction document printing industry. In the years since, he has become proficient in all aspects of the permitting process, with a strong attention to detail and a knack for successfully navigating the complexities of local jurisdictions. A San Antonio native now proudly rooted in South Austin, Charles spends his free time working as a sound engineer at the ABGB, brewing beer, cooking, practicing photography, and traveling. He and his wife Millie also run Social Butterfly ATX, an event bartending business that keeps them active in the community. At home, they're surrounded by a full menagerie, including an African grey parrot named Jarobie, a chonky cat named Dr. Taco, a chihuahua mix named June, a pug named Roscoe (Uncle Puggeh), a golden retriever named Tugboat, and a scruffy street dog named Baxter. Together, they can often be spotted exploring Austin and the surrounding Hill Country.
